So I think this is a hard one…
I feel like I had this one down, then I actually looked at it and realize I’m not the best at this one either.
I Love my Mom and Dad so much I have a good relationship with them. But honoring them is something different and something much more intensive and introspective.
It can be seen very easily by how you treat them. Are you rude? Are you mean? Do you talk back? Do you do what they ask? I don’t know cause I think that all of us most of the time are looking at what our parents are doing wrong and what we dislike about them rather than seeing the blessing that they have been to us.
I’ve come to a huge realization recently with our parents. They did a really good job!
I mean there has been so many things that I realize that because of my mom especially I have been saved from. Same with Sarah (my wife).
We always see the things that are wrong with our parents or see the things that we don’t like, but if we really look back at our lives often, or for most of us, we have had really good parents that want the best for us.
I mean if it wasn’t for our parents we wouldn’t be walking with God in the way that we are right now, and we definitely would not be as happy as we are, because without God we would be lost and alone. They have given us the greatest gift, they brought is up in the knowledge of Christ.
In many peoples lives there isn’t the blessing of Christian parents. We had them and we were loved by them and raised by them to get us where we are now.
But Christian or not we always see the problems with our parents because I believe that we, children, are suppose to start in life where our parents end and move forward from there. We will always see the issues because we are called to do bigger better things, but often we get caught up in the problems from life and childhood and we then are stunted and held back because we don’t honor our parents.
To honor our parents we have to look at the positives from life. We need to stop focusing on the negative things and realize that the way we honor our parents is the way our kids will honor us and that for our kids to be able to move forward from our lives they must honor their parents… us.
Parents screw up, a lot. I mean I’ve only been a parent for about three years now and I mess up all the time. Really sometimes I just don’t understand how dumb I am. It was the same for my parents. They did things that were dumb, and things that hurt us whether it be emotionally or physically or however but the end result is that they birthed us, and gave us life.
For some of you honoring your parents starts with forgiving them. Some of you have been hurt and that is legitimate. It isn’t made up or over exaggerated but it’s is actual legitimate hurt. Past all of the hurt, if there is forgiveness there is honor.
K so I’m starting to ramble on a bit but you get the picture. Find out what you need to do to honor your parents and I guarantee that if you do that you will be projected forward in your walk with God as well as your walk in life. Just remember when you become a parent that your a screwup too and we all need to…
